Although there is often this confusion, the truth is that there is a difference between tea and infusion, being this type of drink commonly called “tea”.
In several countries, as in Portugal, the tea is derived from a plant called Camellia sinensis, originally from China, but currently cultivated in many tropical and subtropical countries. So, from this plant, it is possible to obtain various types of teas, being the most well-known in our country:
- Green tea;
- White tea;
- Black tea;
- Red tea.
All the other drinks commonly called “teas” ( lemongrass, camomile, linden tree, among others), are considered infusions.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TEA AND INFUSION: ALL ABOUT THE TRUE TEA
As mentioned, tea is a drink derived specifically from the plant Camellia sinensis, and all teas resulting necessarily have theine, a substance identical to caffeine. The theine is also a substance, stimulant that increases energy levels and can improve the physical performance and cognitive.
You can, however, entail some problems, notably at the level of sleep, or even more serious problems faced some health complications, being contraindicated in children up to 12 years of age.
In addition to this substance, the plant Camellia sinensis, has other natural components, such as flavenóides, catechins, polyphenols and vitamins, are associated with several health benefits, having properties:
- Regulation of the cholesterol LDL (“bad”) cholesterol.
From this plant, they can then obtain some types of teas, and the following are the most common in Portugal.1. CHÁ VERDE
Green tea is greatly consumed by the entire world and often associated with weight loss diets. This is because this tea helps to speed up metabolism, since it is rich in catechins and in theine.
In addition, there may be advantages at the level of the fluid retention, the process of digestion and bowel function, contributing to the reduction of the volume of the body and abdominal.
2. WHITE TEA
The white tea is an excellent alternative to green tea if you are looking for a tea with less content in theine, but also rich in catechins, since it is the tea least processed. Thus, the advantages of this tea to the level of the organism are similar to those of green tea.
3. BLACK TEA
The black tea, the most processed, is the one that has a flavor and a color more intense, with a higher content of theine. Even so, a cup of black tea has less content of theine than the caffeine content present in a cup of coffee.
Consumed and appreciated by the world outside, pure or its variants, such as with milk or with lemon, black tea, despite being made from the leaves of the plant Camellia sinensis, oxidized and fermented, it also presents numerous advantages for your health.
4. RED TEA
The red tea also known as oolong tea, is one of the most popular teas in asian countries. A little less processed than black tea, contains by it a content of theine smaller and a softer taste, in spite of the dark color to be identical.
The benefits associated with its consumption are equally relevant, being also present in the most of the natural compounds from the plant Camellia sinensis.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TEA AND INFUSION – ALL THE REST ARE INFUSIONS
If tea is the drink derived from the plant Camellia sinensis, the infusion is produced from other aromatic plants, such as chamomile, linden, mint, lucia-lima and many others, and it is common to still add to the infusions of cinnamon, ginger or bark of fruit, for example.
In this case, usually the theine is not present. However, may be noted numerous effects on the health and well-being of those who consume them, depending on the plant chosen to prepare the infusion, such as properties soothing, the digestive tract, to help regulate blood pressure, anti-inflammatory and many others.
Is tea or infusion, both beverages are excellent choices as a source of hydration and without energy value (if consumed without sugar), so it is an excellent alternative to other drinks filled with additives or sugars. The ideal is to drink one to two cups of your tea or infusion preferred, to take advantage of the benefits of this drink for your body, not forgetting a healthy lifestyle.
